Introducing Joann Heaney-Hunter PDF Print E-mail
jhh.jpgWe are delighted to welcome Dr. Joann Heaney-Hunter as a contributor to the family section of our website. Joann's great passion is exploring our rich tradition that family is domestic church. What this means for real families and for those who minister to and with families acts as the cornerstone of her writing, teaching and theological reflection. Joann's first contribution to our website was entitled: "Finding God in all things" Ignatian Spirituality and the Domestic Church. It is a privilege to be able to share more of her reflections with families and those involved in family ministry in Ireland and beyond.

Dr Heaney-Hunter received her Ph.D from Fordham University in 1988, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Theology at St. John's University, NY, where she teaches the theology of Christian marriage to both undergraduate and graduate students. She has served as an advisor to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Family, Laity, Women & Youth and the Sacramental Practices Committee of the Priests' Senate of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Joann has published two books on marriage preparation co-authored with Dr. Louis Primavera. The books are a Leader's Guide and Couple's workbook for the process called Unitas: Preparing for Sacramental Marriage, (Crossroad Publishing, 1998).

Joann's most recent publications include an article entitled "Dancing Together: The Family and the Trinity," in a volume honoring sacramental theologian Bernard Cooke, and "Blessed, Broken and Shared: Toward a Eucharistic Spirituality of Marriage" in a volume honoring theologian Michael Lawler. Forthcoming articles include "The Family as Reconciling Community." She is currently working on a new book which will develop a sacramental spirituality of family.
