The Armagh Diocesan Pastoral Council which has been in existence for one year will reconvene its work on October 22nd. The Council has spent some time looking at the new constitution and it has recommended some amendments which will be voted on shortly.
The main brief of the Council is to advise the Cardinal on how best to care for the pastoral needs of the diocese. They have been looking at the new pastoral areas, the eight commissions, and the new context in which the Church is currently operating. The Council will elect a Chairperson later this year and it intends to publish a list of all its members so that individual parishioners can contact a local representative if there is an issue that they are concerned about.
Â
The focus of the first executive meeting was planning for the first meeting of the Diocesan Pastoral Council to be held in St Patrick's Grammar School on Saturday 9 October 2010. The Council was addressed by Fr Michael Drumm in the morning and in the afternoon the members had an opportunity to volunteer to join one of the eight commissions that will work on behalf of the Diocesan Pastoral Council. Members were asked to indicate which of the commissions would be of most interest to them and two members will be selected to serve on each of the commissions. Judging by the poll on this website there will be a lot of interest in the faith formation commission, but perhaps it indicates that our website regulars have a particular interest in that area.
The eight commissions are:
Â
- Care for priests
- Christian Vocation
- Faith formation and training
- Justice, peace and development
- Liturgy
- Mission and ecumenism
- Prayer and spirituality
- Youth
