Cardinal Brady's April 2009 Address PDF Print E-mail

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

We are now entering the final phase of the consultation process in the formation of new pastoral areas in our diocese.

The journey began with my pastoral letter to you last November. There was an initial consultation meeting in each parish which was held before Christmas. This led to the creation of the draft map published in February of this year. During Lent a public consultation meeting was held in each parish where you had an opportunity to express your views on the proposed pastoral areas. Bishop Clifford and I listened very carefully to what you said at those meetings. Then, after a gathering of the priests of the diocese on Monday 20 April, the present April draft of the proposed pastoral areas was drawn up.

ARCHBISHOP SEAN BRADY

THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION, 2007

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today is the Feast of the Ascension and it is also World Communications Day. It seems appropriate that in the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles we hear the risen Lord sending his disciples to communicate the good news not just in their own city or in their own country but throughout the world. He says:

You will be my witnesses, not only in Jerusalem, but throughout Judea and Samaria, and indeed to the ends of the earth.

Meaningful liturgy - November 2006 PDF Print E-mail
Over the last year the Diocesan Liturgy Commission has been involved in a number of initiatives.

In March and again in May of this year, two special evenings of training for Ministers of the Word took place in Armagh and in Ardee. Approximately 150 people attended over the course of the two evenings which were facilitated by Fr Declan O'Loughlin. A copy of a CD Rom which Fr Declan used on both evenings has been forwarded to parishes and it will be of great use for future training which we may be doing with Ministers of the Word at parish level.

Developing the Role and Ministry of Women in the Church PDF Print E-mail
Initial Approach
The group's initial approach was to explore further what these terms mean to each of us. Everyone has differing views on what constitutes equality and what role women should play in our Church. The group is also conscious that to recognise and enable women will mean some cultural changes in our parishes for both clergy and lay people. While discussing this we identified areas that we thought should be developed on behalf of women in the Archdiocese.

One of the survey's findings is that the majority of parish pastoral councils and other leadership structures came into being through the decision of the parish priest. This shows that the parish priest is pivital to the formation of parish pastoral councils. You can view the summary report here and the full report here.
