Christian Faith and Moral Character |

This course examines a fundamental element of moral experience, the formation of a person’s character, and how the Christian theological tradition reflects upon this reality. After clarifying the meaning of character and its significance for the moral life the course will treat the topics of moral freedom, human sinfulness and the nature of conversion. Film clips will be used to provide an occasion to discuss various themes emphasized in the articles. This four-week course runs from March 1- March 26, 2010 (Web site opens February 22 and closes March 31.)
Topics Week 1: Moral Character – what is it and why is it important? Week 2: Moral Freedom – the nature of freedom and the process of shaping character Week 3: Human Failing and Sin – examining the language and meaning of the mystery of sin Week 4: The Grace of Conversion – understanding the meaning of authentic conversion and its place in the moral life

Kenneth Himes • streaming video of film clips that will be used each week to discuss key points • weekly questions for reflection and discussion • a weekly introduction and study guide • a resource page to use for futher study • a "town meeting" forum where you can meet other participants and socialize.

Time Commitment A participant can expect to spend an average of approximately 4 hours each week. This commitment includes both the assigned reading and interaction online.
