The Priory Institute, established in the Dominican tradition, is a centre for adult education in theological and biblical studies.
It offers an extensive programme of seminars and courses, including a certificate, diploma and degree in theology by distance learning in association with The University of Wales, Lampeter, and a part-time degree in theology in association with HETAC and The Institute of Technology, Tallaght.
The full programme consists of twenty modules offered over five years, each year comprising two fifteen-week semesters. While the programme is designed on the basis of studying two modules concurrently, participants are also free to choose one module at a time if they wish.
Normally students participate in the programme to gain academic credits. For this they register as students of The University of Wales, Lampeter (the accrediting institution) and submit essays and assignments for assessment. Those not registered for academic credit can proceed without the pressure of assignments.
When students register initially, they receive a copy of The Study of Theology at a Distance, which outlines the unique characteristics of this method of learning. There is also a seminar for beginners, held in Tallaght each September.
