Facing Forgiveness PDF Print E-mail
facing-forgivenessThis excellent, down to earth and practical book is a recommended resource for personal spiritual growth and small group reflection.  The topic is on issues of forgiveness and reconciliation and builds on two previous publications, “Design for Wholeness” and “Building Community”.  Part one is an invitation to begin the journey of forgiveness by discerning one’s personal beliefs about and experience with forgiveness.  The second part of the book has many stories about those who have chosen to forgive and also about others who have chosen the course of non-forgiveness.  The reader gets a glimpse into the beauty and healing power of forgiveness, and into the sadness and loss of others who are unable to let go of old hurts and burdens and choose not to forgive.  Personal reflection questions are included after each vignette which attempts to help one clarify one’s own beliefs and attitudes about forgiveness.  It reminds us in the final section of the special grace hat one, as a Catholic, has in the sacrament of penance, and looks at the God who loves us and how sin is a turning away from that love.  The final appendix offers practical processes for use as material in this book in a parish setting.  It is a “must have” for individuals or parish teams and can be easily adapted to meet the unique requirements or each parish.
