New outreach ministry for St. Peter's parish, Drogheda |
|
With the increasing number of migrant workers entering the community of Drogheda, St Peter's Parish has begun an initiative aimed at providing a welcome for all newcommers to the town particularly those from Poland and Eastern Europe. The group's coordinator and St Peter's pastoral council representative on the team is Daughter of Charity, Sr Josephine Flynn. She is ably supported by parish curate Fr Piotr Delimat and recently arrived Sr Anna from Poland.
The outreach ministry will be working closely within the parish over the coming weeks and months to provide a much needed welcome for those new to the community. As part of the initial programme the team will produce a parish and town orientation pack in the Polish language and plan to organise a 'meet and greet' after the Polish mass on Easter Sunday 23rd March. Over the year it is hoped to grow the group to include representatives from other communities living in Drogheda.
Canon Jim Carroll who initiated the ministry said, “This is a very important piece of work for us. It recognises the need to reach out to those new to our community and be primarily a place of Christian welcome. Fr Piotr and Sister Anna both of whom are native Polish speakers will add enormous value to this outreach. We look forward to being enriched by the wealth of experience tradition, and cultural diversity which is so much part of Drogheda in the 21st century.” Planning and facilitation for the group was undertaken by pastoral development consultant, Shane Halpin who also lives in the town.
